Would the Old Master be able to take him down?
Everyone was watching with bated breath. The Old Master attacked with lightning-fast agility, reaching out to grasp Li Lei’s shoulder. Li Lei’s body was full of injuries and blood was flowing down from all the open wounds. He was fending off one of the warriors but heard the Old Master approaching from behind. At the very last moment, almost reflexively, he avoided the Old Master’s attack by a whisker.
He turned and lifted his eyes to meet Old Master Li’s glare.
The grandfather-grandson pair stared at each other and Li Lei moved his lips as if about to say something. However, he saw the warrior circle round his back and was about to launch a sneak attack on Xia Ling!
Xia Ling’s face was ghostly white as she foresaw herself being caught by the warrior and thrown into the open seas. The other warriors that had been thrown into the sea by Li Lei were all brawny fellows and strong swimmers. Even if they were injured, there was no doubt that they would still be able to survive. However, Xia Ling was different—she had a broken rib. If she were thrown into the sea, she was as good as dead.
That warrior lurched menacingly towards her defenseless self.
As she closed her eyes to accept her impending doom, a hand emerged from the side and pushed the warrior away. There was a fluster of activity and, before she could react, that warrior was flung into the sea.
After Li Lei had dealt with the warrior, perspiration flowed down his face. The countless rounds of battle had drained him of all energy.
Yet, he stubbornly remained by Xia Ling and glanced around at his opponents in vehemence. Finally, his gaze fell on Old Master Li. “Grandfather, even Brother will take me on one-on-one. As an elder in the family, you’re not going to outnumber me like this, are you?” Li Lei said in a cold, low voice through pants.
Old Master Li narrowed his eyes.
He knew that this was just a delay tactic by Li Lei. He could tell that his grandson was reaching his limits, and if they were to attack all together right now, they could easily throw Xia Ling into the sea to feed the sharks. However, seeing the gleam of hope in his grandson’s eyes, Old Master still relented. He raised his hand and signaled for the warriors to back off.
“Fine, I’ll go one-on-one with you!”
Li Lei’s eyes narrowed and his muscles tensed in alertness. He knew how scary his grandfather was as an opponent as his abilities had all been taught by his grandfather. Even though grandfather was now old, Li Lei still didn’t have full confidence that he could beat him.
Moreover, he was tired from all the fighting while grandfather was still pretty fresh given all the help that he had.
Yet, there was no backing off as Xiao Ling was behind him.
She had handed her life to him to protect and had no regrets despite being this close to death. Yes, he knew that she had no regrets. She had told him that even if she died, he was not to marry another woman and had hinted that she would return to look for him.
He understood that if Xiao Ling reincarnated again like the Phoenix she was, she was still willing to spend her next life with him.
He didn’t want her life to be so tremulous.
He only wanted them to be together in this life, and to protect her well.
He focused his eyes on his grandfather like a predator ready to pounce.
The situation was tense, and there was only the sound of the wind blowing through everyone’s outfits. At this crucial moment, a helicopter suddenly flew over from a distance and landed at the other end of the deck.
Many guests turned around and reacted in surprise.
“Look, that person!”
“Oh my. Isn’t that the owner of Blissful Paradise?!”
This sentence sent a ripple through the crowd. The owner of Blissful Paradise was like a legend, and no one had truly seen him in person. Yet, all the staff and guests of Blissful Paradise knew who he was, as his portrait was all over the ship. He donned a deep gold leather jacket and had metal chains and locks as accessories all over his outfit. The most eye-catching was the open fan in his hands, that had the words “Blissful Paradise” written in ostentatious cursive handwriting.
He looked exactly like the portraits.
“The owner of Blissful Paradise!” Numerous guests shouted out.
Only Li Lei and the Old Master remained motionless in deadlock, keeping their eyes trained on each other.
Xia Ling, who had her back against the protective railings of the deck, didn’t move as well. She was watching her man through tired eyes. She didn’t know if they would be able to escape from here and was willing herself to remember every line on Li Lei’s face. She didn’t want to forget him if she were to be reincarnated again.
The owner of Blissful Paradise accompanied a man as they walked toward where the battle was happening.
Guests were whispering to each other. “Who’s that person beside the owner of Blissful Paradise? Why is the owner of Blissful Paradise being so courteous to him?” This was all too weird. Since when did the owner of Blissful Paradise have to pander to anyone?
Being courteous was just the tip of the iceberg.
