This wasn’t like when he had been attacked on the canal and had to protect Zhang Yue and Peng Fulai, forced to stand against Xiahou Ying.
He could well have adopted the guerrilla warfare tactic of hit-and-run.
Su Zhaojun, however, misinterpreted his intention. She glanced at the steed in front of Li Xuan, thought about the incredible speed, and basically understood.
"What about Shenqi Union leader Dai Longli and others? And Yurou?"
"They ran away." Li Xuan stepped on the ground, an expression of helplessness on his face: "I was digging for a long time without breaking through, so I simply gave up. But my Niulang is still in the sky, looking down for them. As for Yurou, I searched the entire Artifact Mountain and found no sign of her."
Su Zhaojun wrinkled her brow involuntarily: "Artifact Mountain is just a place for them to do business, not their base. Abandoning it is not strange. But the next step will be difficult. The Shenqi Union consists of twelve sects; who knows where they have hidden her? Should we go to each one of them?"
"No need to look anymore." At these words of Su Zhaojun, Li Xuan gave a cold sneer: "From now on, I’ll wait here for them to bring Yurou to my doorstep."
"Wait for them to bring Yurou back? What do you plan to do?"
As Su Zhaojun asked her question in surprise, a sound of galloping horses echoed in the air. A figure dressed in a scarlet Feiyu suit, riding an Earth Dragon, was rushing over.
Upon closer inspection, she realized it was Qianhu Wei Bailong. Although they hadn’t interacted before, Su Zhaojun had seen him from afar.
Upon arrival, Wei Bailong slowed down his horse, observing the surroundings before frowning: "Earl Jingan, you better leave this place as soon as possible. I will handle what remains."
Shenqi Union belongs to the cultivation world, to Jianghu. They commit crimes by force. Usually, the Great Jin Dynasty Court rarely interferes in their affairs — but eventually, given the numerous deaths, it would be difficult to resolve this once reported to the authorities.
Even so, Wei Bailong decided to shoulder this matter because Li Xuan’s worth justified it.
Li Xuan, however, stared at him: "After the attack on the canal, the Left Dudu never gave me an explanation, did he?"
Wei Bailong was taken aback, then chuckled bitterly: "Currently, a part of them have been found to be the swordsman of Guanzhong, and some are notorious bandits from Shandong. All of them were merely mercenaries."
"But their weapons came from the Shenqi Union." Li Xuan pointed at the firearms and crossbows on the ground: "Regardless of the mode of circulation, they are tied to them."
Wei Bailong understood his implication. He pondered: "It’s a big deal that I might need to discuss it with the Left Dudu."
The other party seemed prepared to pin this assassination attempt squarely on the Shenqi Union.
"Besides that, I found a large quantity of weapons in the nearby warehouse. There are even about two thousand commonly used curved swords of the grassland people."
Li Xuan stood with his hands behind his back: "Smuggling weapons; they can’t deny this crime, can they?"
Su Zhaojun silently agreed that this accusation was not unfairly imposed on the Shenqi Union. She knew the location of their headquarters near the Gubei Pass was for the convenience of their business.
They could fill the Dynasty Court’s orders here, and quickly transport goods to the grassland.
