As Wen Nan asked the question, the apparition across from him fell into a prolonged silence once more.
This made Wen Nan uneasy deep down.
Actually, Wen Nan’s question was quite ambiguous, undefined, and if it were anyone else across from him, they would probably ask back: "Who exactly are you looking for?"
But the main god couldn’t do that.
The gift Wen Nan received required the main god to answer a question. When faced with Wen Nan’s question, the figure had to provide an answer, not dodge it with another question.
So, the main god went silent.
The time dragged on so long that Wen Nan began to suspect the other side had crashed.
Just as Wen Nan was about to break the silence himself, the other side finally spoke again,
Are you kidding me? Do you realize you’re dodging the question?
"Impudent!" the main god berated angrily again. "How dare you repeatedly insult this deity!"
Wen Nan didn’t want to indulge him anymore and retorted:
"We agreed that my gift from the [Silver Star] includes one question, so there should be some sincerity in your answer, right? You went to such great lengths to package yourself in that Fiji cup to send it to me, can’t you at least provide a thoughtful answer?
"Yes means yes, no means no. What do you mean by ’yes and no’? Are you giving me a quantum superposition state?"
The main god fell silent again.
He seemed guilty about his answer and, after a moment, spoke again, making a compromise: "This deity is always fair. Since you are dissatisfied, I shall make an exception and grant you an additional question. Now, you may ask again."
Still able to gift an additional question?
That doesn’t seem like a loss, does it?
As Wen Nan was thinking, the other side urged again, "Hurry! If you delay any longer, this deity will dissipate!"
This apparition fades so quickly?
Wen Nan cleared his throat, stood up straight quickly, and began to reorganize his question.
The previous question was evidently ineffective, so he decided to change his line of thinking and asked, "Is the Water Monkey still alive?"
The figure fell silent once more.
After a long while, the main god spoke again: "Yes, and no."
Can you not give a straight answer?
If you can’t, just say so. If you don’t know, just admit it.
"Impudent!" the main god angrily rebuked once more. "If you dare to show disrespect again, I will withdraw your abilities!"
Are you not even bothered about losing face?
After a moment of deadlock, the surroundings fell silent again.
Though the main god’s apparition was boisterous, it did not do anything extreme but, after cooling down, said again: "Seeing that you’re still dissatisfied, I shall make an exception a second time and grant you an extra question. Now, ask for the third time."
The last two quantum superposition answers left Wen Nan speechless, and now there’s going to be another question given?
Given the current state of this apparition deity, no matter how many questions it sends, they would likely yield the same results, right?
If he keeps questioning , the other side will accuse him of being "impudent" again...
"Impudent! Withdraw your disrespectful thoughts against the main god!"
Sure enough, Wen Nan shook his head with a smile, thinking, next they will accuse him of stalling.
"Since you have guessed, ask quickly! Stop dawdling! This deity will dissipate in a minute!"
Wen Nan was getting weary of this questioning session, so he raised his hand to brush the tuft of hair atop his head,
"Then let me ask you, are you male or female?"
The question was thrown out, and the other side went silent again.
Ten seconds, twenty seconds, half a minute...
As Wen Nan was about to speak again, the figure across from him transformed into a wisp of black smoke and completely vanished.
The surrounding was once more enveloped in blinding light, and Wen Nan closed his eyes. Upon reopening them, he was back in the pavilion with the "Fiji cup" still in his hands.
He shook his head and looked around.
The man outside the pavilion walked in with a smile, "Mr. Ye, it seems you have received your gift?"
Saying this, the agent bent down, closed the empty gift box on the table, tucked it under his arm, then extended his hand to Wen Nan: "Congratulations again, Mr. Ye, for becoming this world’s first [Silver Star]. Such potential! Boundless prospects!"
Wen Nan reached out and shook his hand, asking, "Do you know what my gift was?"
The agent shook his head, "This is a custom gift crafted for you by the main god, and as an agent, I am only responsible for distributing the gift packs without the authority to peek inside them."
"I see," Wen Nan withdrew his hand, pointing to the empty gift box under the agent’s arm, "So why were you hiding outside the pavilion just now?"
The person’s smile remained warm and refined, explaining patiently, "The gift from the main god to you is your personal reward, and I have no right to interfere. Any kind of eavesdropping or peeping behavior would be blasphemy against the main god and would result in me losing my agent status."
Wen Nan nodded in understanding.
But thinking back to his conversation with the main god’s apparition, he couldn’t help but feel that with such low-value content, it wouldn’t matter if they had indeed overheard.
He was pondering this thought when the agent bid farewell to Wen Nan, "The gift pack has been delivered, Mr. Ye. Until we meet again."
Wen Nan quelled his thoughts and returned the courtesy. As the person turned to leave the pavilion, Wen Nan called out to him, "By the way, you forgot this."
Saying this, Wen Nan handed the agent the smooth white cylindrical object in his hand.
The agent waved it off with a smile, "This is a one-time-use container. Now that it has been used, it’s just an empty shell. Mr. Ye, feel free to keep it for yourself."
Wen Nan retracted his hand, looking at the indescribably shaped container, thinking to himself that although he wouldn’t have much use for it, it wouldn’t take up much space if he kept it on his bedside.
As he pondered, the scenery around him started to disintegrate. Wen Nan looked up and saw that the agent standing outside the pavilion was becoming as blurry as the surroundings.
Before completely disappearing, the agent smiled, "Mr. Ye, be careful."
Wen Nan was perplexed, yet saw that the person and the courtyard had already vanished completely.
Wen Nan found himself standing in a dark little room, shaking his head helplessly. He thought to himself that the opponent, being an agent, obviously arrived with a physical body at the service center forty or fifty minutes ago, otherwise Gu Jinxing’s abilities wouldn’t have sensed the potential threat. But now they resorted to a trick to simulate a graceful exit, probably slipping away through some hidden alley once the illusion ended.
