When I returned to The Pit with Reinar and Jen, we instantly made our way to the tenth ring, where we kept all the brainwashed soldiers and villagers.
The first warrior with whom we tried the holy panacea was the one we chose to test the new potion, as we felt that if someone deserved to be cured first, it was that guy.
It was a bit harder to feed him the potion since it took a few seconds for the thick liquid to pour out of the bottle, so Vespera and I had to hold down the man for a long time.
Once most of it slid down the man’s throat, we let go of him and gave him some space to flail his arms around. Suddenly, he halted his movements and stared into the void with his eyes widened.
"Oh? Is something happening?" I wondered aloud.
*cough, cough* the man choked, holding tightly onto his windpipe.
I focused my eyes on looking at the man’s MP, and all I could see was demonic energy flowing out of his body. However, it didn’t look relieving at all. Instead, the man was quite clearly in a lot of pain.
"AAAARRGHH!" the man shouted in agony.
"Uhhh, guys?" I said to the alchemists, feeling worried about the man who was screaming as if he was being murdered.
Nevertheless, Reinar and Jen were staring attentively at the chained warrior with their hands holding their chins.
Even in this desperate situation, the two alchemists took their research quite seriously and didn’t let the shouts of pain from the man take the focus away from their thoughts.
After one full minute of suffering, the man calmed down and was heavily breathing on the ground. When I focused on looking at his aura, the demonic energy that was violently flowing out of him had ceased.
"Did it work?" I asked.
Suddenly, all of the demonic energy that had left the man’s body started to accumulate on one spot, materializing a small demon-looking monster.
The creature’s height reached up to my waist, and his appearance was that of a greater demon, except much smaller and skinnier.
After it quickly materialized in front of us, it let out a piercing screech that echoed all over The Pit but was promptly silenced by Vespera, who used her spider legs to stab the creature in the head.
"What the hell was that!?" I asked, uncovering my ears.
"An imp..." Vespera replied.
Before I could inquire more about the monster, the man raised his gaze, and his expression was that of confusion and exhaustion. However, it was the first sign of emotions that he had shown.
"Wh-where am I?" the chained man asked.
Bjorn and Magnus had been present for the ordeal, and they were the first ones to approach him.
"Brother, you were mind-controlled by the devil..." said Bjorn, placing a hand on the man’s shoulder.
The man gasped, widening his eyes, saying he remembered what had happened before losing consciousness.
His name was Sven, and he was protecting a small settlement against a couple of black demons.
During his fight, he was struck by one of the demons before getting hit with the brainwashing spell. From that point on, his mind was all blank.
As Sven kept talking, I focused on looking at the flow of his energy, and it only took a few minutes for it to be perfectly balanced, making the thick layer of MP appear around his body.
’Hmmm, the strike he received probably made him lose control of his MP for a moment, leaving him open to the brainwashing spell...’ I thought.
"Vesp, what was that thing?" I asked again.
