Chapter 101: Solo Kill of the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish
Over a hundred Nether-Tailed Profound Fish charged at Mo Lin’s head, trying to tear him apart and bite him to death.
Mo Lin let out a cold snort.
He had not expected the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish to be so vengeful, actually trailing behind the cargo ship for more than a whole day.
But since they came knocking, Mo Lin had no intention of retreating.
So what if there were two Earth Rank, seven or eight Profound Rank, and a hundred Yellow Rank ones? Did they really think he was some soft persimmon?
Mo Lin twisted his body, advancing instead of retreating, and dove straight into the school of Nether-Tailed Profound Fish.
To him, the Profound and Yellow Rank fish, though numerous, posed little threat. His true opponents were the two Earth Rank ones.
By taking the initiative to plunge into the school, he actually made it harder for the two Earth Rank fish demons to strike—after all, with Mo Lin hiding among their own kind, they couldn’t just bite down recklessly, could they?
Seizing the moment of hesitation, Mo Lin remained still even as smaller fish demons gnawed at his scales, then launched an attack on the two Earth Rank fish.
Whenever they tried to counterattack, Mo Lin dove back into the swarms of lesser fish, using his “Shrink” ability to blend in, leaving the Earth Rank fish demons with no way to strike him.
Over time, the two great fish demons were fuming with rage:
“Hissss—lurrrrup!”
Enraged by Mo Lin’s constant harassment, they suddenly lunged into the school, biting one of their own companions to death.
Mo Lin was startled—he had not expected the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish to have such explosive tempers.
Unable to subdue him, they even slaughtered their own kind.
Thanks to those two fish demons, however, the lesser Profound and Yellow Rank fish were thrown into chaos, panicked and disordered, making it even easier for Mo Lin to conceal his presence.
Shrinking down to the size of a grass snake, Mo Lin seized his chance, stealthily clinging to the belly of a Profound Rank Nether-Tailed Profound Fish and creeping closer to the two great ones.
At the critical moment, Mo Lin lunged.
“Spatial Imprisonment!”
One of the Earth Rank Nether-Tailed Profound Fish was locked in place, its body sluggish in the water, forced to watch helplessly as Mo Lin pounced upon it.
A massive “Lightning Orb,” utterly disproportionate to Mo Lin’s current small-snake body, instantly formed and slammed hard against the fish demon’s body.
“Hissss!”
The orb exploded at close range, blasting the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish until it was dazed and twitching.
Mo Lin seized the moment, expanding back to full size, wrapping tightly around the demon fish.
The other Earth Rank fish demon tried to rush over to save its companion, but Mo Lin dragged his captive back into the fish school, once again using “Spatial Imprisonment” to play hide-and-seek.
As the imprisoned Earth Rank fish demon shook off its paralysis and pain, it struggled to break free of Mo Lin’s coils.
Seeing this, Mo Lin calmly conjured Lightning Orb after Lightning Orb. If one couldn’t kill it, then two, three, four… how about more?
One after another, Lightning Orbs rained down mercilessly upon the demon fish.
Cunningly, Mo Lin timed the final orb for when the fish opened its mouth to bite him, tossing it straight inside.
The Lightning Orb exploded from within, blasting the demon fish apart from the inside out.
“Hissss…”
That Earth Rank Nether-Tailed Profound Fish was directly strangled and slain by Mo Lin.
During all this, because Mo Lin remained hidden within the fish school, the other Earth Rank demon had failed to subdue him or free its companion—instead, it had left its other allies bloodied and battered.
In the Ning River, Mo Lin finally released the Earth Rank fish demon that was now beyond dead, swallowing it whole.
Feeling the powerful boost its corpse granted to his body, Mo Lin bared his fangs in a grin, casting a taunting look at the remaining Earth Rank fish demon.
“Hissss—lurrrrup…”
It finally stopped pursuing him, glaring murderously at Mo Lin, who had just slain its companion.
Yet within that ferocity was a flicker of fear—if its equal in strength had been so easily taken down, what about itself?
The Nether-Tailed Profound Fish were violent by nature, but that did not mean they were brainless. No fool could ever grow to Earth Rank.
When it realized Mo Lin could slay an Earth Rank demon right in the midst of its hundred companions, it began to waver.
It knew now that Mo Lin was a hard opponent—and began to wonder if fighting further was worth it.
Mo Lin grinned, advancing on the remaining fish demon.
“Hissss—lurrrrup…”
The Earth Rank Nether-Tailed Profound Fish glared at him with blood-red eyes, then suddenly turned to flee!
It gave up on hunting Mo Lin, ready to leave with its surviving companions.
But they had been the ones to hound Mo Lin without rest—now that he had slain one of them, they thought they could just leave?
How could the world be so kind?
Times had changed—if fish could pursue, so could he.
Mo Lin surged forward at top speed, rapidly closing in on the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish.
In theory, the fish should have been faster in the river. But Mo Lin’s battles over the past two days had not been without gain.
He had realized that in the river, speed was the right to strike first. Whoever swam faster seized the initiative. So for two days, he had been honing his movements, striving for greater speed.
And he had indeed discovered a method—his wings.
When kept folded, his wings had only slowed him down, creating more surface area against the water, increasing drag.
But through adjustment, he had transformed his wings into flippers, like fins.
Each stroke through the water propelled him forward with immense thrust.
While the effect was subtle when he zigzagged through the river, in straight-line bursts, his wings became his strongest propellers.
With their aid, Mo Lin’s straight-line speed surpassed even that of the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish, allowing him to overtake and hunt them down mid-river.
Catching up, Mo Lin wasted no time, smashing down a combo of “Spatial Imprisonment” and “Lightning Orb” directly onto the demon fish’s head.
The fish had never imagined Mo Lin could outpace it—it took the hit squarely, its face contorting in pain.
“Hissss—lurrrrup!”
Enraged, the Nether-Tailed Profound Fish abandoned escape, summoning its companions to attack in unison, while it waited to strike from behind.
But if two Earth Rank fish demons together had failed, how could they succeed now?
After another round of battle, one massive Nether-Tailed Profound Fish rolled belly-up in the water, lifeless.
The others, who had clustered around their Earth Rank leader, scattered at once, no longer daring to provoke Mo Lin.
“Pfah.”
Though he had slain two Earth Rank demon fish, Mo Lin himself was not unscathed, his body carrying wounds. He had no desire to chase the rest.
The two Earth Rank corpses alone were harvest enough.
Besides, there was still a Black-Iron Spirit-Sealing Box lying at the riverbed—during the battle, no demon beast had time to bother with the sealed box, and so it had sunk.
After devouring the second Earth Rank fish demon, Mo Lin turned and swam down toward the depths of the river.
