Chapter 108: Entering the Warehouse
Lin Rui and Chu Huai felt the Demonic Core placed before them, which unexpectedly released the aura of an Earth Rank Superior grade.
At once, their eyes turned red.
One had to know that although they were both Earth Rank Inferior grade, the same as Chairman Dong Li, that was only because Dong Li had become Chairman early on and placed his focus elsewhere, delaying his cultivation.
The resources they received could not possibly be compared with those of Chairman Dong Li.
Chu Huai and Lin Rui would occasionally mock themselves when guarding the resource warehouse:
Even though they were guarding the most important resource warehouse, the Yongzhou Chamber of Commerce never lacked the ability to recruit experts. If they didn’t do it, there were plenty of others who would.
If not for that bit of cultivation resources, how could they, as beings of Earth Rank, be willing to serve as mere warehouse guards?
Of course, to say it was only a “bit” of cultivation resources would be an understatement. What the Chamber gave them was still worthy of their Earth Rank status.
Even so, when they looked at the Earth Rank Superior Demonic Core before them, they still drooled with desire.
They didn’t even need to look carefully to know that the core was among the finest of the Earth Rank Superior grade. Such a thing was something they could never afford, even if they guarded the warehouse for ten years.
And yet, Ning Zhuo, merely a Profound Rank Superior, had casually taken it out of his pocket!
This was simply the greatest disrespect toward an Earth Rank Superior Demonic Core.
Seeing Lin Rui and Chu Huai’s reddened eyes, Ning Zhuo could not help but smile bitterly to himself.
Truthfully, he was just as astonished as they were.
He had never expected that after stealing the Demonic Core, Mo Lin would not swallow it immediately, but would instead spit it out from his stomach and hand it to him, using it as bait to distract the two Earth Rank guards.
One had to understand, though Earth Vein Yin Marrow was precious, its value could not be compared with that of an Earth Rank Superior Demonic Core.
Mo Lin’s action was no different from spending thirty million to bait a thief carrying only one million—
Even if it caught the thief, it would merely gain an extra million, just a fraction of the original gain. But if it failed to catch the thief, it might end up losing the original ten million entirely.
This was a thoroughly unprofitable business.
If Ning Zhuo had gotten hold of the Demonic Core, he would have absolutely used it or, at the very least, hidden it well. There was no way he would have let it reappear.
And yet, for some reason, Mo Lin dared to do this.
Of course, Mo Lin’s boldness had brought its own reward.
Ning Zhuo glanced at Lin Rui, only to find that the two waist tokens had already joined together without him noticing.
Lin Rui, however, was completely mesmerized by the Demonic Core, and so had failed to see the strange phenomenon happening with the tokens.
Not only that, but beside Lin Rui’s waist token, a small Grass Snake had secretly poked its head out, biting down on both tokens at once, leaving only a small part still in Lin Rui’s hand.
Then, Mo Lin quietly spat the tokens out again. While Lin Rui and Chu Huai were still lost in the shock of the Demonic Core, it silently slipped back onto Ning Zhuo’s body.
To Ning Zhuo’s astonishment, his token—without Dong Li’s magical power, which should have caused a reaction with Lin Rui’s—remained completely still.
The two tokens now coexisted as if infused with the same magical power, harmoniously resting together.
How was that possible?
Ning Zhuo could not figure it out. If the magical power on two waist tokens were different, there would inevitably be a reaction.
How had it made the reaction vanish?
Back on Ning Zhuo’s waist, Mo Lin yawned lazily.
How?
Wasn’t it simple?
As soon as there was magical fluctuation, it just swallowed it.
As for why it hadn’t swallowed the Demonic Core, that was because when Mo Lin discovered that Dong Li was not only the Yongzhou Chamber of Commerce Chairman but also greatly valued the Demonic Core, it came up with this backup plan.
It had quickly returned to the Chamber with Ning Zhuo as a hostage, aiming to use the fact that “the Demonic Core was stolen” had not yet spread within the Chamber, to see if there was any opportunity.
As it turned out, its judgment was correct.
Of course, this was only one of its backup plans.
Hidden inside Ning Zhuo’s sleeve, one could vaguely see Ning Ruirui still yawning at his side.
If the Demonic Core hadn’t had the desired effect, it still had another backup plan to use.
Fortunately, its luck was good. A single Demonic Core was enough to captivate Lin Rui and Chu Huai’s hearts, so it did not need to use another.
“Hoo~”
Chu Huai let out a long breath, suppressing the greed in his heart for the Demonic Core, and looked at Ning Zhuo:
“Ning Zhuo, it seems Chairman Dong truly values you, to entrust even such an item to your care.”
Ning Zhuo gave a bitter smile in his heart.
Too bad he had disappointed the Chairman.
Not only had he lost the Demonic Core, but he was also being held hostage by Mo Lin, using what should have been handed over to the Chairman to trick the Chamber into giving away even more resources.
He was already a traitor to the Chamber.
Chu Huai asked curiously:
“By the way, Ning Zhuo, do you really carry the Demonic Core on you so casually, without even using any sealing method? Aren’t you afraid someone will notice it?”
Ning Zhuo gave another bitter smile.
He did have a Black-Iron Spirit-Sealing Box, but it had been shattered by the combined efforts of the Chairman, the Prince of Jiyang, and Mo Lin.
Mo Lin had achieved its goal, and Ning Zhuo had no wish to explain further. Instead, he cupped his hands to the two guards:
“Gentlemen, since the waist token has already been verified, may I enter the warehouse?”
At his words, Lin Rui glanced at the waist token in his hand. Nothing unusual had happened, so he returned Ning Zhuo’s token to him and signaled for Chu Huai to lead him inside.
As for himself, he was still dazed from the shock of the Demonic Core, unable to calm down.
He feared that if he stayed longer, his greed might overwhelm him, and he might commit the grave sin of trying to seize it from the Chamber. He did not dare. But if he kept staring at it, he could not be sure his willpower would hold.
Chu Huai could only shake his head helplessly:
“Follow me in.”
Entering the warehouse, Chu Huai looked at Ning Zhuo:
“Where did the Chairman say it should be placed?”
Ning Zhuo pretended to recall:
“Row nine, column fifteen, under Yisi.”
Chu Huai led Ning Zhuo to the spot he had named:
“There, that’s the place. Put it here.”
Ning Zhuo, along with Mo Lin hidden in his sleeve, looked toward the place Chu Huai pointed out. On the shelves, jars were neatly arranged by category.
On one of the rows, a label could clearly be seen—Earth Vein Yin Marrow!
Mo Lin scanned the area, confirming that there was at least ten catties of Earth Vein Yin Marrow stored here, far more than it required.
Peering through Ning Zhuo’s sleeve, it glanced at Chu Huai.
As long as it could eliminate this man, the Earth Vein Yin Marrow would be within its grasp.
But Chu Huai was an Earth Rank expert. To take him down in the shortest time possible would undoubtedly require a sneak attack.
As for how to ambush an Earth Rank, Mo Lin had already thought of a plan.
It glanced at Ning Ruirui, still tightly held in Ning Zhuo’s grip, its expression utterly calm.
Since it had already been scolded by Ning Zhuo as having been “born again,” then what harm was there in being reborn once more to achieve its goal?
The next moment, Mo Lin’s gaze locked on Ning Ruirui, and “Spatial Imprisonment” silently activated!
