Lady Cheng’s face revealed a smile, as she wanted to see how Zhuang Ruolan would refuse. Unfortunately for Lady Cheng, Zhuang Ruolan did not refuse, but instead said with a smile-filled face, "As the elder bestows, I dare not decline."
Zhuang Ruolan had never held the extravagant hope that Ma Peng would be hers alone in this lifetime; the notion of a lifetime pair was only found in plays, and only naive girls would believe it. It didn’t matter if he had concubines, but she was resolutely not going to allow a Concubine-born child to be born before she had given birth to a son. Lady Cheng and Father-in-law were giving people out, and she accepted it. As for how things would work in her courtyard, that was for her to decide.
Yueyao finished her evening meal and went for a walk in the garden, only to learn from the maids’ gossip that her uncle had sent two maids to her Eldest Cousin.
Yueyao was speechless to the extreme. The cousin-in-law had only given birth to two daughters, she wasn’t infertile, and yet Uncle Master actually sent maids to Eldest Cousin. What was Uncle Master thinking?
Nanny Hao said beside her, "Uncle Master cannot possibly be this confused, can he? It must be Lady Cheng using Old Master as a pretext."
Yueyao’s face was filled with doubt, but then she shook her head; Lady Cheng surely didn’t have the audacity to use her uncle as a front. Yueyao could only sigh; her uncle was indeed consistently muddled in handling family affairs. Now, she could only hope that Eldest Cousin could withstand this, so as not to create a rift with his Eldest Cousin-in-law.
Ma Peng was naturally lacking when it came to women, and when he returned home and saw two delicate beauties added to his household, he was very surprised, "Why are there new people in the house?" Ma Chengteng didn’t think for a moment that they were prepared for him.
Zhuang Ruolan smiled brilliantly, "This is Father-in-law and Madam who have prepared them for you, saying it’s time for you to spread out your branches and leaves." Zhuang Ruolan spoke generously and appropriately, yet in her heart, she still hoped Ma Chengteng would refuse. Zhuang Ruolan may not believe that Ma Peng would never take a concubine, but after such a long time as husband and wife, and having given birth to two daughters, she held a sliver of hope.
Ma Peng frowned slightly, "You said it’s from dad? That’s impossible." After saying this, he called out for Changshun and asked him to pass this news to Ma Chengteng.
Zhuang Ruolan said doubtfully, "You mean this isn’t Father-in-law’s intention?" Impossible, Lady Cheng actually concocted such a lie; she was either extremely foolish or there was something wrong with her mind.
Ma Peng nodded, "Dad isn’t senile yet, why would he meddle in our household matters? If this got out, wouldn’t it become a laughingstock? Surely someone made a mistake." Ma Peng directly rejected the two maids sent over by Lady Cheng.
Zhuang Ruolan suddenly didn’t know what to say. If Father-in-law heard her husband’s words, even if he had said them, he would surely deny them.
Cai Yun signaled to the maids outside, and the two wet nurses brought over the children. Keyue was already a year and a half old and was recognizing people; seeing Ma Chengteng, she immediately called out in a baby voice, "Dad, hug." The first child always gets the love of the parents, and Ma Chengteng was no exception.
Ma Chengteng took Keyue into his arms and playfully pricked her face with his beard. Keyue turned her head and complained, "Daddy, it hurts." Beard pricks were truly uncomfortable. Keyue didn’t bearded daddy anymore.
Ma Peng laughed, "I didn’t expect Keyue to actually dislike daddy."
Zhuang Ruolan smiled as she walked over and took Keyue into her arms, saying with a laugh, "Children’s skin is tender, they can’t endure your beard prick, look, her face is all red. If you keep pricking her, she won’t want you to hold her anymore."
Keyue addressed Zhuang Ruolan, "Daddy bad bad."
Ma Peng laughed heartily, "Daddy bad bad, then who is good?"
Keyue mumbled, "Auntie good, auntie good."
