Sixty years after heroes wielding mana power ventured into portal worlds to save humanity from collapse, mana users now comprise nearly a fifth of the population. These "users" or "raiders" were once champions who secured mankind's future by plundering treasures and slaying formidable beasts. However, Nestra, born without a core, is not among them. In the corporation-dominated city of Threshold, baseline humans like her are being sidelined, with MaxSec, her employer, one of the last bastions for those without mana. Nestra's addiction to mana and her job, which offers the only proximity to portals, are a dangerous combination. As she navigates this powerful city where ordinary people are easily overlooked, Nestra faces disaster unless she can uncover the reason for her missing core.
