Nowhere Stars, an ongoing fantasy-horror web novel by Anemone, presents the story of Liadain, a girl facing a terminal illness. Her thirteenth birthday marks the beginning of hospice, but a terrifying encounter with a monster leads to an extraordinary offer: the chance to become a Keeper. Keepers are chosen children whose magic defends humanity from Harbingers, creatures that consume dreams, passions, and souls. While some become heroes, others are driven by the desire for power, becoming something beyond human after defeating enough Harbingers. Liadain, seeking to save herself, embraces this new path. Her magic, however, reflects her own internal struggles, granting her dominion over sickness and death, forcing her to weaponize the very things she despises. As she extracts power from Harbingers, Liadain questions whether their hunger mirrors her own.
